THE BOWERY
COMES TO TORONTO

The arts and culture hub of NYC to be reflected in Toronto's newest
restaurant and bar lounge

TORONTO - June 27, 2011 - The Bowery, a new 'punk meets farm' restaurant and bar (and soon to be live music venue) will open its doors on Monday, June 27th for business. Located at 55 Colborne St., open for lunch Monday to Friday and dinner Monday to Saturday, The Bowery is set to be Toronto's best destination for food, specialty cocktails, atmosphere and culture abound. Brought to you from the restaurant and bar industry powerhouses Uniq Lifestyle (http://www.uniqlifestyle.com), The Bowery is the perfect compliment to Uniq?s other properties such as Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse, The Ballroom, The Brant House and Cheval to name but a few.

Executive Chef Tawfik Shehata (currently also Executive Chef at The Ballroom and formerly of Vertical Restaurant) along with Chef de Cuisine Jason Maw (formerly of Starfish Oysterbed and Grill; Boba) have crafted a wonderfully local inspired menu heavily utilizing the five foot long custom charcoal grill situated in the open kitchen. Menus will be constantly evolving, ranging from a selection of composed a la carte plates as well as larger menu items that are perfect for sharing amongst guests. Daily features based on whatever is fresh and in season delivered that day by a roster of local farms will always be on offer, and prepared with only the finest ingredients. The Bowery, meaning 'farm' in Dutch is truly the heart and soul of this beautifully harvested menu and original offerings.

Designed by the acclaimed Allen Chan, Matthew Davis and Anwar Mekhayech of The Design Agency, The Bowery adopts the same feel in its d?cor as it does in the food with a hint of punk thrown in for good measure. The design direction for this space was to create an eclectic, original and inspiring environment that speaks to the operation of a restaurant concept and a bustling bar/lounge. Fluorescent orange red is the accent color that appears throughout the space along with elements inspired by the streets of NYC, specifically in the LES and Bowery area. Custom neon art, commissioned artwork by up-and-coming Canadian artist Jarrod Wilson obtained through The Art Stylists? Manny Neubacher and Anya Shor, a custom hay rake chandelier designed and manufactured in Brooklyn and other lighting designed by Tom Dixon and Jielde are just a few of the specific design elements in this project. Artek Rocket stools from Finland are situated around the open kitchen design, encouraging guests to interact and relax while they watch the masters at work on their meals. Other table seating includes reclaimed wooden school chairs direct from New York City.
